1. MATH 101 - Concepts in Elementary Mathematics I

This courses is perfect for students interested in teaching elementary and middle school maths. This course gives an introduction to elementary mathematics, logic behind algorithms, development of mathematical intuition, and proper sequencing of topics. Students will also learn about how mathematical concepts fit together. This is a two-semester courses offered every year.

2. MATH 105 - History of Mathematics

This is a historical course which explores themes of number, geometry, algebra, infinity, and their historical development in civilizations. From Babylonia to modern Europe, all time lines will be explored. Analysis of the application of mathematics will also be taught. In this courses, there will be a fair share of presentations and class discussions. This course is offered periodically over the school year.

3. MATH 119 - Precalculus Mathematics

This course is intended for students who would like a refresher or a preparation course for MATH 120 or MATH 124 (calculus courses). This course covers more advanced algebraic techniques like linear and nonlinear inequalities, quadratic equations, and linear systems. Students will also take a look into polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions. Prerequisite for this course is a suitable score on the mathematics placement test, and this course is offered every semester.

4. MATH 126 - Number Theory

This number theory course will help students improve mathematical reasoning and proofs writing skills. This course teaches about a variety of theorems such as Fermat’s theorem and Euler’s theorem. Students will also take a look into Euclidean algorithm, Diophantine equations, and congruences. In order to take this course, students need to have completed either MATH 120 or MATH 124. This course is offered periodically over the school year.

5. MATH 217 - Probability and Statistics

If you are interested in how statistics and probability work in your day to day life, this is the course for you! Topics covered will include probability axioms, basic combinatorics, random variables and their probability distributions, mathematical expectation, and common families of probability distributions. Prerequisites for this course include MATH 120, MATH 130 and MATH131. This course is offered every year.

6. MATH 228 - Topology

Since this course is a continuity of the lessons learned in MATH 131 and MATH 172, students are required to have completed the two before enrolling in this course. This course topics include topological properties of subsets of Euclidean space, and developing algebraic tools like homology. Further concepts such as Knot Theory and topological modelling in psychology will also be explored. It is important to note that this course is only offered every other year.

7. MATH 244 - Differential Equations

This course will look at how differential equations that occur in mathematical models of physical, chemical and biological phenomena can be solved though flows of scalar and planar ordinary differential equations. Stability and bifurcation are also discussed in this course. The course prerequisite is MATH 130, and this course is offered every other year.

8. MATH 225 - Modern Algebra I

This course is part 1 of the modern algebra courses which discuss unique factorization and the modern theory of rings and their ideals, emphasizing Euclidean domains. Prerequisites for this course include MATH 120 and MATH 130. As this course is required for all mathematics majors, it is available every year.

9. MATH 226 - Modern Algebra II

Since this course is a continuity of MATH 225 (Modern Algebra 1), students must have completed MATH225 prior to enrolling in this course. This course will focus on groups and Galois theory, canonical forms of matrices and modules. Students will also take a look at solving various mathematical problems. This course is offered every other year.

10. MATH 110 - Diving into Research : The Mathematics Behind Gene Regulation

For students that are interested in taking a look into research, this would be the perfect course to gain experience in. Students will learn about designing experiments and derive equations to model gene expression. This is a one-year course for students to gain hands-on experience with a mix of mathematics, computer science, and molecular biology. It is important to note that MATH 110 does not satisfy any requirement of the Math major. This course is also offered every year.
