Student leaders colloquium 1000x500

HNRS 2000 is a course at East Carolina University that all Honors College students are required to take in the Fall semester of their freshman year. The class is meant to be relaxing and a breath of fresh air. However, it can still become stressful if the following 4 tips are not followed:

1. Work Collaboratively With Your Group!

The main focal point of the class is to come up with a problem around the university and to find a solution to this problem with your group. If everyone in your group is not willing to work together, the whole semester will wind up being frustrating. Not only this, but you will feel as though you are wasting your time in the class. To prevent this, and to have success implementing your solution, find a way to work well with your group. It will be worth it.

2. Go To Class!

You have to go to HNRS 2000 to be successful. You only meet once a week for two hours, so it is vital that you are present. You are allowed to miss one class period throughout the semester, but after you miss once, your grade will start to get affected. Also, if you are missing class, then you are not helping your group with whatever project you should be working on. Skipping class for inexcusable reasons is not a good idea for this course.

3. Meet With Your Group After Class!

You only meet for two hours a week in class with your group, so it is a necessity to meet with your group outside of class each week. There are assignments that involve the whole group, so you cannot complete these assignments without your group. Also, having group meetings will allow you to build a stronger relationship with group members. This will really help throughout the semester, especially when you create a professional poster that explains your problem and solution.

4. Be Passionate!

You have to be passionate to get anything out of HNRS 2000. If you are not passionate about problems around the university, you will be bored, and you will not effectively help your group. On top of this, the instructor will notice your lack of passion, and your grade could be affected by this lack of passion. With your group, find a problem around the university that each member of the group is passionate about fixing. Through this passion, come up with ideas to actually fix this problem.

HNRS 2000 is a collaborative class that is relatively easy. However, many students find themselves bored and stressed. If you follow these 4 simple tips, you will find yourself excited for class every week, and you will make an impact at East Carolina University.
