Reading Day is an established day at ECU that allows students to prepare for exams. It comes after the day that classes end and the day before exams begin. This day can be extremely beneficial for students to do better on their exams, but many students do not use the day to their advantage. Even so, if you use these five tips, then you will use Reading Day in an advantageous way.

1. Go To Joyner Library!

Joyner is a fantastic library on campus with many resources that can aid you with your studying on Reading Day. There are study rooms, white boards, tables with electrical outlets, a writing center, and many more resources. A week before Reading Day, go to the library’s website and reserve a study room. Therefore, you will have a reserved study room on Reading Day, and you will be able to study there all day long.

2. Go To Bed and Wake Up Early!

You do not want to waste away the day by sleeping most of it away. Therefore, make sure you go to bed early the night before Reading Day and wake up at an appropriate time. The day is meant to study for the exams, not to catch up on the sleep you have previously lost. Use the day to your advantage by studying for your exams for the full day.

3. Create Periods of Rest!

An important aspect that you want to consider is that breaks are good. You cannot study all day long nonstop without any breaks and still maintain full focus on the course content. Therefore, make a short break for yourself every 30-45 minutes. This will help you to stay concentrated when you are studying, and it will lead to easier studying.

4. Know Your Study Habits!

You need to know your study habits to have a successful Reading Day. If you study better alone then you really need to be in a study room by yourself all day. If you study better with other people then you should reserve a group study room and gather up a few people to study with. You also need to know what to study and how to study it. If you do not know what works best for you then you will not have success on Reading Day.

Reading Day can be a relaxing day, a stressful day, or somewhere in between. Hopefully, if you follow the tips given to you, then you will find Reading Day to be a relaxer for you in that you feel prepared for your exams. That is, after all, the point of Reading Day.
