There are many writing intensive classes at ECU, and they can be difficult if you do not know how to write papers with time management skills. There are many papers in these classes, so that means that they are a big chunk of your grade. Therefore, you need to know how to do well on these papers without affecting your other classes. These 5 tips will aid you with these papers.

1. Write Rough Drafts!

Nobody can write a perfect paper on their first try, and it is necessary in writing intensive classes to write rough drafts for each paper. After writing a rough draft, you can go back and edit your work. This will allow you to polish your work, and it will prevent you from turning in a paper that will get you a bad grade.

2. Don’t Wait Until The Night Before!

Writing over a course of a few days is far easier than writing a paper in one night. Writing a paper the night before that it is due can lead to a lackluster paper, and your grade will more than likely be affected. The students that are successful in writing intensive classes at ECU understand the amount of time that it takes them to write a paper, and they split this time into a few days. This allows them to take breaks when writing the paper, and the paper  is better than it would be otherwise.

3. Wait A Day Before Reading Over Papers!

After completing your rough draft, save the paper and do not look at it until the next day. By the time you complete your rough draft, you are tired of writing, and you do not want to read over the paper. If you wait until the following day to re-read your paper, you will be far more focused, and you will find mistakes in your writing easier.

4. Read Your Paper Aloud!

It may sound silly, and do not do it around other people, but read your paper aloud to yourself. You read differently to yourself than aloud. When you read aloud, you will notice if something does not make sense easier than when you read to yourself in your head. Due to this, it is smart to read your papers aloud to yourself when taking writing intensive courses at ECU.

5. Go To The Writing Center!

East Carolina University has an amazing writing center that will help you through any step that you are in with your papers. They can help you gather your thoughts before beginning the paper, edit your rough draft, or even review and polish your final draft. If you are serious about being successful in your writing intensive classes, it is critical that you visit the writing center.

Writing intensive classes really are not that difficult at ECU, but you do need to have a plan when writing your papers. This plan can be as simple as you want it to be, but the 5 tips above will help you in making your plan and helping you to be successful in your classes.
