Pirate After School Scholars, also known as PASS, was established in Fall of 2017. The organization is still new, but it has already had an impact on many different children’s lives. Parents cannot always afford tutoring for their child, so PASS is the best organization at ECU for parents to go to.

1. Tutoring for Grades 3-8

Any kid that is in the 3rd-8th grade can contact PASS and be tutored for free weekly from 4-6 at Sheppard Memorial Library. Any college student that goes to ECU can volunteer to tutor these students. The tutoring is so great for parents because it is free and their child gets a one on one tutor.

2. Benefits

Not only do parents and the child get something positive out of the organization, but the students that are volunteering to tutor are receiving volunteer hours. This is great for their résumé, and depending on their major, they may be preparing for the future. For example, volunteering through this organization can be very beneficial for future teachers. On top of all this, members of this organization get to wear a unique cord a graduation!

3. Take a Break

As a college student, you do not have to spend every second of your time studying and doing homework. That is one of the things that makes this organization so great. College students can take a break from their studies and help children in their studies at the same time!

4. Make A Difference!

If none of the amazing features of the organization do not persuade you to join the organization, then take into account the fact that you will be making a difference. Because everyone is not lucky enough to have a tutor when they struggle, the organization fixes this problem. However, the organization needs to have enough volunteers that are willing to make a difference for a difference to actually be made.

PASS is still a small organization at this time, but it is growing. As the organization grows older and more people hear about it, more ECU students will step up and help to make a difference through the organization. Through all of the benefits of the organization, Pirate After School Scholars is one of the best organizations to be a part of at ECU.
