The School of Music at East Carolina University does an amazing job at letting students feel welcome as a music student and allows students to make many friends. The whole School is very close knit, and this allows each student to gain a quality education that is not found at many other universities. Majoring in music is a life changing decision at ECU, and five reasons that you should are as follows:

1. The Atmosphere

Every person comes to college and wants to make lifelong friends and have the best years of their life. Well, when you major in music, you will live with the other music majors at ECU, and you will all become a family. The atmosphere will keep you happy even when you are extremely stressed with classes!


2. Music Library

The music library contains many resources for resources, including: 90,000 books, scores periodicals, etc. Every music major will be glad to have the music library as a resource as their college career grows. ECU offers this music library that many other music schools in the world cannot offer, and it gives you all the more reason to major in music at ECU.


3. A.J. Fletcher Music Center

As a music student at ECU, you will find yourself calling the music center your home. There are over fifty practice rooms in the building, and you will find yourself practicing in Fletcher for hours at a time. As a passionate music student, you will be thankful that you have such a vital resource such as A.J. Fletcher Music Center.


4. The School of Music is accredited with NASM and AMTA

The National Association of Schools of Music establishes national standards for music schools around the country, so each music school in the country has similar standards. The American Music Therapy Association promotes the development of music therapy in the school of music. Being accredited with each of these allow the School of Music at ECU to be just as good, if not better, as all schools of music in the country.


5. The Education

East Carolina University’s School of Music is one of the top music schools in the state, and it is definitely top three in the state. There are only 250 undergraduate music students at ECU, but that is intentional, as this allows each student to get plenty of one-on-one studies with the amazing professors. The professors in the School of Music know how to teach music to students, and you will get one of the best educations in the country.


ECU’s School of Music is amazing, and you would not regret majoring in music at ECU. You will make lifelong friends, have the time of your life, and get one of the best educations in the country. If you major in music at ECU, you can be rest assured that you will become a completely different player and person by the time you graduate.
