The English Department at East Carolina University strives to provide students with an education that will allow them to have a career in anything they want to dealing with English. When one majors in English at ECU, they could find themselves working with the government, writing a book, or even teaching at a university. There are many reasons that you should major in English at ECU, but some of the top reasons are as follows:

1. Education

 

One of the main reasons to major in English at ECU, of course, is for the education. That is what you are paying for! The education that you will be getting at ECU in English is amazing, and you will be enlightened when graduating from ECU. There are many different concentrations that you could get a degree in within the English department, but you can be rest assured that you will get a quality education with whichever concentration you choose.

2. Faculty

 

There are amazing faculty that teach in the English department at ECU. These faculty teach creative writing, literature, linguistics, and more. As an English student, there really is no end to the classes that you can choose from. All of the faculty work as hard as they can to give each student a quality education, and you would be proud of your degree in English if you were to go to ECU as an English major.

3. The Love for English

 

If you are considering majoring in English, then odds are that you love English! Well, lucky for you ECU’s English department does a little bit of everything when it comes to English. Therefore, you are bound to find at least one professor or one class that you absolutely love. East Carolina University’s English department will allow you to get get a quality education and have fun while doing it.

4. English Club

 

There is a unique English Club at East Carolina University that is open for all majors to join. The club meets once every other week, and they attend many events, and even go on trips. One of the biggest perks of the club is that they attend the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia. This is something that any English student would love to do!

5. Study Abroad

 

Most majors have a study abroad trip each year, and the English departments study abroad trip happens to be a trip to London, England! Students get credit for two classes while they are on the trip, and it is an amazing experience. Dr. Taylor has been going on this trip with students for over 25 years, and he will be there with you to guide you on the trip in London!

Some people like writing, some people like reading, and some people like learning about the English language in general. The English department at ECU has a little bit of everything for English students, and all students will have fun when going to class on the pursuit of a degree. If you decide to major in English at ECU, you will be getting an amazing education, will have fun doing it, and will gain friends in the process.
