Scholarship

East Carolina University has many scholarships ranging from $500 to $5000 each year, and some of these scholarships can be awarded just by majoring in a certain subject. However, many of the scholarships are based on financial need or academics, and the top scholarships awarded at ECU are the Maynard, Honors College, Access, and EC Scholar scholarships. There are countless other scholarships offered at ECU, and some of the best tips to receive some of these scholarships are as follows:

1. Complete Your General Application

The University of Scholarships at ECU asks each student to fill out the General Application form on the scholarships portal. This general application is a broad application that is used for many scholarships that students cannot actually “apply” to. The general application is the actual application for these scholarships. Therefore, you should definitely fill out the general application and work as hard as you possibly can on it!

2. Look for Supplemental Scholarships

The general application is the actual application for many of the scholarships offered at ECU, but there are actually more scholarships. Some scholarships at ECU require you to fill out additional forms and complete more essays than the general application asks for. So, these scholarships use your general application with the addition of supplemental materials. These scholarships are called supplemental scholarships, and you should definitely apply to these, as they are typically the larger scholarships.

3. Volunteer throughout the year

Your applications to scholarships are not only based on your academics or essays that you set forth. The amount that you volunteer is another factor for these scholarships, and it looks really good to volunteer throughout the year. There are many events on campus that you can help volunteer with, and there are also volunteer organizations (such as Pirate After School Scholars). Volunteering and helping out in the community is an amazing thing to do, as you are making a difference, and your scholarship applications will look better!

4. Join Clubs and Organizations

May of the organizations and donors giving out scholarships at ECU love seeing applicants being involved around the school. Therefore, it is a very good idea to join as many clubs and organizations as you can. Being a part of an organization on campus allows students to be more involved, make more friends, have a better college experience, and in the long haul students may be awarded with  a scholarships!

5. Get to Know at Least Two Professors

Although the general application does not require any references from any professors (or any references in general), some of the supplemental scholarship applications do. Therefore, it is a good idea to get to know one or two of your professors in case you need to ask them for a reference letter. In general, it would be a good idea for the future to get to know some of your professors. You never know when you may need a reference letter for something.

Scholarships can sometimes be difficult to receive, but following the five given tips can give you a better chance at being awarded a scholarship. Nobody wants to graduate from college with a lot of debt (or any debt at all), and it is very helpful to receive scholarships. Do not miss out on the opportunity to receive money and follow the given tips!
