The Department of Chemistry at ECU is one of the more difficult departments to get a degree in, but that is because the science classes can often be difficult. Even so, ECU is one of the best places to major in chemistry at in North Carolina due to the quality education. In addition to the education, there are many different reasons to major in chemistry at ECU, and 5 reasons are as follows:

1. Many Different Jobs

Many people are unsure what to do with a chemistry degree, so they decide to not major in it. However, there are actually many different fields that you can get a job with a chemistry degree including: Biotechnology, Healthcare, and Forensics. The Department of Chemistry will train you to do well in any of these fields, and if you go to ECU then you will be able to get a job with any of these fields easily.

2. Scholarships and Awards

As a popular major, there are many different scholarships and awards offered to people majoring, or intending to major, in chemistry at ECU. These scholarships and awards often end up giving students a full ride, near a full ride, or enough money to allow students to attend ECU affordably. The scholarship process is not difficult, but make sure to apply and you may find yourself going to ECU for nearly nothing!

3. Chemistry and Pre-Pharmacy Club

There are many clubs at ECU, but many people majoring in chemistry are interested in the Chemistry and Pre-Pharmacy clubs. Both organizations are run by students and for students interested in chemistry or pharmacy. Each club has a faculty advisor, and the Chemistry Club even has a Facebook page!

4. Accelerated Masters Degree

If you know that you want to get your Masters in chemistry before graduating with your bachelor’s, you could use ECU‘s accelerated program to get your Masters in only 2 to 3 semesters. That means you could only go to school for one extra year and come out with a Masters degree. Not only will that help you with money, but you will be able to find jobs easier and become more educated in chemistry.

5. The Learning Center

The Department of Chemistry has its own Learning Center to help its students excel in their schooling. It is located in the Science and Technology Building, and it is open every Monday-Friday from 8-5. Students go there to for study sessions, computer use, and to get help from faculty.

The Department of Chemistry has one of the best departments of chemistry in North Carolina, and there are many reasons to major in chemistry at ECU. There are countless resources to chemistry students, and many of these students end up getting scholarships for majoring in chemistry. Major in chemistry at ECU, and you will be making the decision of your life.
