The Department of History at East Carolina University offers an amazing degree in history, and it is as great as any other university’s history degree in North Carolina. There are amazing faculty, amazing programs within the department, and an overall amazing atmosphere. There are countless reasons that you should major in history at ECU, but five main reasons are as follows:
One of the things that history majors love to do is learn about history (of course). Well, the Department of History at ECU strives to give the best education to its students. Students will learn about the diversity and experience of the global past. They will learn how to gain a prosperous career when graduating, and they will have fun learning the whole time.
2. Over Twenty Professors
The faculty in the Department of History at ECU work as hard as they can to give their students as good of an education, if not better, than they would at any other university. Together, they offer over 25 courses that are strictly in the category of history (they teach classes that mingle with other departments at ECU). These over 25 courses allow flexibility for students, as they can choose what they want to learn, and the professors get to teach what they are passionate about.
3. History Honors Program
One of the unique features of the Department of History is its History Honors Program. To be a part of the honors program, students have to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have a minimum of 20 semester hours in history. This program looks great on a resume or scholarship application, and it is unique and only offered to history students.
4. Study Abroad
The Department of History offers four different Study Abroad opportunities for ECU students. You do not have to be majoring in history to experience these opportunities, but they would be more enjoyable after already knowing the professors that are leading the trip. Major in history, and discover the world with the professors you already learn with.
The Department of History offers its own scholarship opportunities, so history students have a chance at getting these and the general scholarships. Students have to have at least a 3.0 GPA to earn a scholarship, but the opportunity for them are always there. There are five main scholarships and rewards, and it would be an honor to receive any of them.
Majoring in history at East Carolina University is an amazing opportunity that any student should take. If you are afraid that you would not be receiving a good enough education, or that you do not have enough money, do not worry. Give it a try, and who knows, it may be the best decision you have ever made.
