Your advisor can help you in more ways than you would think possible at East Carolina University. They give you guidance on what classes you will need to take in the four years that you are getting you degree, and they can give you much needed advice throughout your college journey. There are many reasons to meet with your advisor, but the top 5 reasons are listed below.

1. Registration

Each semester, you are required to meet up with your advisor to talk about registration. Your advisor will give you your registration pin at the meeting for you to use when registration will actually open. You will talk about your classes that you will take in the next semester, and you will get a moment to talk about anything that you want with your counselor.

2. Classes

When you first come to ECU, it can be quite difficult to understand what classes that you need to take. You can find all of your required classes for your major in Degree Works, but it can still be difficult to navigate. This is where your advisor can help you. Your advisor can guide you through each semester and help you take the correct classes for each semester that you are in school.

3. Referrals

If you talk to and meet up with your advisor enough, they can end up making a referral for you one day. This can help, as your advisor is specialized in the major that you are majoring in. They understand what is needed in referrals, as they write many of them for other students that are majoring in the same subject as you.

4. Talk About Your Major

Your academic advisor at ECU specializes at advising students within your major, and they do not advise students from other majors. Therefore, they know when you need to apply to certain places (such as Upper Division with the College of Education). They know all of the ins and outs of your major, so if you ever have any questions about your major then they are there for you.

5. Academic Goals

Your advisor is here for you for whatever you need academically, and that includes your academic goals. They can tell you where your GPA needs to be,  and they can tell you what classes you need certain grades in for you major. Talk with your advisor and let them know what your academic goals are, and more than likely they can help you achieve them.

East Carolina University has many academic advisors, and all of them are passionate about helping students in their journey through college. All of them are helpful, understand, and caring, and they are always here for you. Never be afraid to go and talk with your advisor about any questions you have!
