You’re not the only one wondering how to cancel your Chegg membership. That’s actually one of the most commonly asked questions about the platform.

However, ending your Chegg subscription may be more complicated than you realize. The steps to canceling your service will depend on what you’re signed up for and how you signed up.

Top 3 Things to Know about Canceling Chegg

1. Uninstalling the app doesn’t cancel your subscription.

If you've been using the Chegg Study app, uninstalling won’t end your subscription. To prevent future charges, you’ll need to cancel using one of the methods below.

2. Your subscription method may determine how you cancel.

Canceling Chegg typically needs to be done via the platform you used to subscribe. If you subscribed via iTunes or Google Play, that’s how you’ll manage your subscription.

3. Pausing isn’t the same as canceling.

If you have a monthly plan, you may see the option to pause rather than cancel. Billing will automatically begin after the number of months you specify. If you pause within your Chegg settings, you may still get billed via iTunes if that’s how you signed up.

Steps to Canceling Chegg’s Individual Services

These steps can be used to cancel Chegg Study, Chegg Math Solver, Chegg Writing EasyBib or Chegg Study Pack. Select the cancelation method based on how you initially signed up.

How to Cancel Chegg Tutors

The process for canceling Chegg Tutors is different than other Chegg apps. Rather than ending an unlimited subscription, you’re dealing with a set number of tutoring minutes. Here are the steps:

  1. Sign in to your Chegg account and visit your My Account settings.
  2. Click on your Orders.
  3. In the Subscriptions setting, click edit plan next to Chegg Tutors.
  4. Change your subscription to pay as you go to stop the recurring charge.
  5. If you have unused tutoring minutes when you cancel, you will lose access to these minutes but you can request a refund. Email Chegg requesting they reinstate your unused tutoring minutes or they refund payment to your card.

How to Cancel All of Chegg’s Services

You don’t have the option to shut down your Chegg account through your online settings. Instead, you’ll have to connect with a customer service rep either via a phone call or online chat. Here are the steps:

  1. Complete all open transactions including book returns or rentals.
  2. Call or chat with customer service during supported hours.
  3. Request that Chegg closes your account.
