# Math Courses at Georgia Institute of Technology

The Georgia Institute of Technology is a public research university and institute of technology in Atlanta, Georgia. The school has many different math courses that are suitable for majors and their requirements. Here are 1o different math courses to take.

**1. MATH 1711. Finite Mathematics**

This course covers linear equations, matrices, linear programming, sets and counting, probability, and statistics. This is a course that will teach various different skills in math while giving good introductions to what they do. Probability is a useful skill that can be applied to many fields such as business, economics, and finance.

**2. MATH 1712. Survey of Calculus **

This course covers functions, the derivative, applications of the derivative, and techniques of differentiation. You will also learn about integration, applications of integration to probability and statistics, multidimensional calculus. This is a great course for those interested in statistics as well as calculus.

**3. MATH 2550. Introduction to Multivariable Calculus**

This calculus course is an introduction to multivariable calculus through vectors in 3D, curves, functions of several variables. It also covers partial derivatives, min/max problems, multiple integrations. This course however does not cover vector calculus.

In order to take the course you must have credit in any of of the following courses: MATH 1502,Ā MATH 1512,MATH 1555,MATH 1504Ā ((MATH 1552Ā or MATH 15X2 or MATH 1X52) and (MATH 1522Ā orĀ MATH 1553Ā orĀ MATH 1554Ā orĀ MATH 1564 OR MATH 1X53. **4. MATH 2551. Multivariable Calculus**

This 4 credit course is a continuation of the introductory multivariable calculus course. In this course, you will learn about linear approximation and Taylorās theorems. You will also be taught on Lagrange multiples and constrained optimization, multiple integrations, and vector analysis including the theorems of Green, Gauss, and Stokes.

In order to register for this course, you must have credit in MATH 1502 or MATH 1512Ā orĀ MATH 1555Ā orĀ MATH 1504Ā ((MATH 1552Ā or MATH 15X2 or MATH 1X52) and (MATH 1522Ā orĀ MATH 1553Ā orĀ MATH 1554Ā orĀ MATH 1564 or MATH 1X53). The professor of the course is Shu Liu.

**5. MATH 2603. Introduction to Discrete Mathematics**

This course teaches students about mathematical logic and proof, mathematical induction, counting methods, and recurrence relations. You will also learn about algorithms, complexity, graph theory, and graph algorithms.

In order to take the course, you must have credits in MATH 1552Ā orĀ MATH 1502Ā orĀ MATH 1512 or MATH 15X2. The professors of the course are Agniva Roy and James Anderson. The course is worth 4 credits and is a lecture-based course.

**6. MATH 2552. Differential Equations**

This course goes over methods for obtaining numerical and analytic solutions of elementary differential equations. You will also learn about applications with special emphasis on modeling. This is a great introduction it higher-level math courses that are needed for a math centered field of engineering.

This course teaches students to use critical thinking and logic skills. The professors of the course are Tao Yu and Gregory Mayer. The course is a combination of lectures and labs.

**7. MATHĀ 1552. Integral Calculus **

Integral calculus explores the use of definite and indefinite integrals. You will also learn about techniques of integration, improper integrals, infinite series, applications. You will apply a lot of integrals to a graph as well as learn to study and learn how to read the graphs.

This course is teaching you about areas under a curve and how the graph is representative of the integral. The course is put on by Cvetelina Hill, Liao, Shasha Liao, and Jorge. The course is worth 4 credit hours.

**8. MATH 1551. Differential Calculus**

This is a course that is a continuation of the introduction course. It covers more concepts and theories so that you get more details and evidence on how to prove your points. Differential calculus includes applications and the underlying theory of limits for functions and sequences. This is a great course for not only math majors but an engineering or science.

This is a great course to take if you are looking to study the rate of change. You learn helpful skills in learning to use formulas to solve problems as well as study and interpret graphs. The professor of the course is Monica Flamann.

**9. MATHĀ 1550. Introduction to Differential Calculus **

An introduction to differential calculus includes the applications and the underlying theory of limits for functions and sequences. This is a different type of calculus but if you are studying math for the field of science/engineering you will need higher math courses. This calculus teaches you about limits and how to solve them.

The course is taught by two different professors Hangfan Li and Neha Gupta. The course is worth 3 credits. If you are looking to learn more about calculus then this is a great introduction to it.

**10. MATH 1111. Precalculus for Mathematics without Trigonometry. **

This course teaches an intensive, functional approach to algebra that incorporates the use of technology. There is an emphasis on functions, inequalities, and linear, quadratic, piece-wise, rational, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Appropriate applications will be included. If you want a course that teaches about equations and their corresponding graphs, then this is for you.

This course is meant to have a graphic calculator that can handle using LOG. The course is taught by professor Stephanie Reikes. This class when taken is worth 4 credit hours.

Georgia Institute of Technology has a great variety of different math courses to take. The courses prepare you for powerful problem solving and logic skills. The math courses prepare you for any field, especially for those in finance, economics, engineering, and computer science.
