The best way to make new friends in college is by joining clubs! Some clubs require more time commitment than others, but hopefully you find this information beneficial. It won’t hurt to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Although there are over 400 different clubs offered at Illinois State University, here are just a few that may catch your attention.

1. Deaf Redbirds Association

If you are interested in learning American Sign Language, this club is for you! Deaf Redbirds Association is a student organization that strives to spread awareness about the deaf community. While the club hosts monthly meetings, you will also have the opportunity to attend bi-weekly sign language practices. Learning a new language can be tricky at first, especially when the language involves only hand movements… But this club will allow you to dive into their culture and learn about the ways that deaf people communicate. If you continue to attend the meetings and practices, you will eventually become a sign expert!

2. Card/Board Game Club

Whether you win or lose, this club is a fun way to spend your evening no matter what day of the week it is. The mentors and their “buddies” have the opportunity to build a strong relationship throughout the year.
