Pace University in Manhattan is the best place to be. The Brooklyn Bridge is across the street, Chinatown is down the block, TriBeCa is only a few minutes walk, and everything else is just a subway ride away! Who wouldn’t love it? And the best way to take in what Pace University and New York City has to offer? Living in Maria’s Tower! Here’s a list of things you should know before you move in.

1. Communal bathrooms are annoying, but they’re not as bad as everyone says they are.

The showers are pretty small, but they work fine. And if you hate showering at the same time as other people, you can just go to a different bathroom. The most important thing about communal bathrooms is remembering to be courteous to your floor-mates. Clean up after yourself and people will follow your lead.Image result for singing in the shower gif

2. The lounges are the best!

There will be people in the lounge all the time. Don’t lock yourself up in your room! Go and hang out with everyone and don’t be afraid to bring up ideas. Start a game night, movie night, or trip to the museum or the movies! The best part of MT is the community. Make yourself a part of it!Image result for lounging gif

3. Rooms on the north side of the building get really cold. Rooms on the south side get really hot.

The sun doesn’t really reach the north side of the building, but it beats down on the south side relentlessly. If you live on the north side, make sure you have nice blankets on your bed. If you live on the south side, you should probably keep your shades closed during the hotter months so it doesn’t get unbearable.Image result for hot and cold gif

4. Elevators are slow.

There are sixteen floors with residents and three floors underneath MT that are always busy. Be prepared to either take the stairs or wait, sometimes for more than 15 minutes, for an elevator.

Some residence halls don’t have lounges, so there’s a lot of pressure to be best friends with your roommate(s). At MT, there are two lounges on every floor and a whole ton of community events, so if you and your roommate feel a little awkward together, there are about 40 other people on the floor to befriend. So don’t worry!Image result for hakuna matata gif

6. You’re never alone.

This could be a good thing or a bad thing. If you’re the kind of person who loves to be around people and have a lot of conversations, then this is perfect for you. It’s great to meet new people from all different backgrounds; it helps you grow as a person and become more knowledgeable. Plus, it’s fun to hang out with friends. But sometimes, it’s hard to find some alone time at MT and in New York City at large. But there is always a little nook for you to get some R and R. Just go out and explore!

Again, the best thing about Maria’s Tower by far is the community. Take advantage of all the events that happen on campus and in MT. It’s a great way to meet even more people and get closer to the people you  already know.

Maria’s Tower is the perfect place to experience college and New York City. It has the community feel that everyone needs, and the environment outside that everyone wants. Pace University is the greatest school, and Maria’s Tower is the greatest residence hall!!!
