Some students are great at math, while others struggle profusely. Math doesn’t come easily to everyone. If you struggle in math, don’t let it get the best of you. These are six tips to help you pass Math 102.

1. Take Good Notes

This may seem like an obvious reason, but a lot of people believe that they can remember everything their professor says during a lecture. If you are one of those select few that can, good for you. For those of you who aren’t, take clear and precise notes. Jot down everything that your professor is saying because nine times out of ten, it’s useful information. These notes will help you when it’s time for you to study for a quiz or exam.

2. Do your homework

Depending on the professor, homework can be a majority of your final grade. Homework can also help you understand the material better. It also allows you an insight into where you are in the course material. If you don’t understand something now, it’s time to get some extra help. So make sure you do your homework!

3. Ask questions!

Sometimes you’ll be sitting through a lecture and you won’t understand what material your Professor is teaching. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Normally, if you have a question, chances are someone else may have the same one. Maybe they’re too shy to ask but if the question doesn’t get asked, it won’t probably won’t get answered. If you still don’t understand the material, stay after and speak with your professor. They may be able to help you during their office hours. If they have no hours, you can always make a trip to the Mortola library.  During the week, except Friday and Saturday, you can visit the tutoring center for extra help during 10:00am to 9:00pm.

4. Practice, practice, practice!

Just like you can’t ride a bike without learning how to ride with training wheels, you can’t solve math problems without practicing it first. It’s important to understand the structure of mathematical topic that your professor’s going over in a lecture so that later on, you’re able to master any problems that may be given.

5. Form Study groups

Study groups can become very helpful when taking on any difficult course. Face it, studying alone can become tedious but if studying with a group, it gives you the opportunity to discuss topics and problems you may not completely understand. Pace University’s Mortola library allows its students to book a cubicle online or on the library’s computer so that students can study together in an environment that is quiet and less distracting.

6. Stay positive

It makes things a lot harder for you, especially life when you go about it with a negative attitude. You will need determination and ambition to get through the semester. Math doesn’t come easy to everyone but if you work at it, you will succeed.

Like any subject, math requires some work to get through. If it doesn’t come easy for you don’t give up. Hopefully, these tips, help you pass Math 102 at Pace University!
