Did I survive? That’s debatable.

I’m breathing but am I really alive?

I just want to crawl into a cave, eat and sleep on repeat.

Is that too much to ask? Yes? Well, that sucks.

The real question is- Why don’t humans hibernate?

Even though I am not sure if I actually survived, here are my tips.

1. Sticky notes are your new best friends

Staying on top of my schoolwork is the bane of my existence. Honestly, figuring out all these online platforms Queen’s uses are killing me.I have missed more assignments than I care to count, not because I am lazy or a slacker but because I forgot due to getting swamped with other things I had to do. I recently discovered the sticky notes method- my room walls are now covered in sticky notes! It helps!

2. Sleep is NOT for the weak

I love my sleep but I am one of those people that sleep late and wake up late. Queen’s definitely taught me a lesson. When you have an 8:30am lab, you better drag yourself to bed early. After fainting in my first Chemistry lab, I learnt how to go bed early. You should set up your schedule to give you at least 7 hours of sleep.

3. Laundry is NOT a piece of cake

It could be, if you listen to the advice your mom gave you and not mix whites with colored. Did I listen? No, no I didn’t. Do I regret it? Yes, yes I did. Trust me, it doesn’t speed up the process. It just turns an hour into three.

4. Comfort over Fashion

You can definitely be stylish and comfortable at the same time. Do not try to be stylish without considering your comfort. This is important because some days, you will wake up and just want to go back to bed (LITERALLY ME EVERYDAY). On days like that, I don’t think you want to wriggle into skinny jeans or wear a dress that doesn’t let you breathe.

5. Manage your money

I am currently broke. My bank account is seriously weeping. Buying all my books literally bleed my account dry- I must read all those books by the way, for the amount I paid, I will read them till they are tattered.  Do not spend unnecessarily and buy only what you need not want. Or else, you will end up like me. Do you want that?

6. Read!

Even if it makes you a nerd or whatever, make sure you read. If not, you are setting yourself up for the biggest heartbreak ever. Cramming a night before the paper does not, I repeat, DOES NOT, work. University requires constant reading and even if it is difficult, you need to keep up with your readings. Do not be like me, I learnt the hard way.

7. Take a break

It gets overwhelming a lot and very quickly. Just find a spot on campus that is quiet or soothing and spend at least 10 minutes there once a week. For me, it is the lake by Waldron Tower. It helps to just clear your mind and release the tension. If crying works for you, cry it out. Don’t wait till you feel yourself slipping into a depressed mood.

Most of these tips, I learnt after doing the exact opposite.
