Attending Temple University allows students to have an urban college experience. Philadelphia is a city with endless possibilities for exploration and fun. Here are five neat Philly hacks that every Temple U student should know to make the most out of their experiences.

1. Take The Subway

If you’re trying to get somewhere, don’t waste your money on trying to find parking or taking an Uber. Money is already tight for students in college, so think wisely. Using the subway is the most efficient and easiest way to get around. Trips on the subway usually cost about $2.50 for most places and many transfers between trains are free. Between the Broad Street Line and Market-Frankford line, it takes less than 15 minutes to get from the Temple area to South Philly or University City.

2. Plan Your Trip To The Reading Terminal Market Accordingly

The Reading Terminal Market is a place of nearly every food imaginable, so it’s not surprising that it’s almost always crowded. If you go during a prime mealtime, there is little to no chance of you ever getting a table and you will most definitely be clawing your way through the crowd. Visit in-between meals instead!

3. Visit South Street To Avoid A Tourist Trap

The best cheesesteaks are not from Geno’s or Pat’s. They’re actually found at Jim’s, which is on South Street. There are plenty of notable spots on South Street, such as the Theatre of Living Arts, Big Gay Ice Cream, smoke shops, and more. Just about every other thing a young, free-spirited person could want can be found on South Street.

4. Be Smart

If you’re looking for a positive time in Philly, you need to understand the potential dangers associated with the city life and just be aware. Philly isn’t as dangerous as people make it out to be, but it’s always good to be smart. Lock your doors, don’t look up at tall buildings, walk with a sense of purpose, and don’t stare at your phone for too long. There’s no need to be paranoid, but it’s good to be cautious.

With these few tips in mind, you can really maximize your experience in Philly. Temple U students should really take advantage of their beautiful environment while they’re here.
