For many students, the transition into college is different and challenging. Eventually, however, people adjust and begin to feel at home at their university. Although for some students, this may not be the case. You may find that the school you chose is not as great for you as you planned it would be. The thought of transferring may cross your mind– and that is okay. Do not be afraid to make the change for yourself if you feel that you would be happier at another university.

For many students during their first year of college, the transferring process can be intimidating and scary. Students often wonder if they are just being dramatic and need to give their school more time, or are worried that they will not like any university they attend, so why bother transferring? The process of applying to college all over again, and moving yourself into yet another unfamiliar setting can seem terrifying. However, you can NOT be afraid to make a change.

As a college student, you are capable of making decisions that will benefit you in the future. Finding the right college and taking care of yourself is the first step to the rest of your life. If you spend time at a college that does not suit you, succeeding may become a challenge for you. Although the main reason for attending college is to receive a good degree and to excel academically, these are not the only obstacles you face as a college student.

There could be many aspects of the environment of your current university that may be unsettling to you. If the other aspects are what is causing you to consider transferring colleges, that is okay. If it is the academic portion of the college experience that is causing you to consider transferring, that is okay too. Although it is important to focus on your studies, it is also important to realize that you will be living on campus for four years of your life. If this seems unmanageable for you, put thought into whether or not your university is the right place for you. There are many necessities for living a healthy and productive life in the college environment. As an adult, it is your responsibility to make sure you have the things that you need.

So yes, transferring can be a very stressful process that can often scare college students. However, it is crucial that you are happy and healthy at your university. Do not be afraid to make the change if you find yourself to be unhappy in your current setting. It is incredibly mature to be able to pinpoint that you are unhappy, and to make necessary changes to fix this. If you are considering transferring schools, do your research and do not be afraid to make a change.
