1. Agricultural and Rural Development
Does it absolutely break your heart to see third world countries struggling? Would you love to do anything you could to help them? If so, you should definitely take this fun and exciting class! This class gives you an overview of the struggle of third world countries and a lot of ways that we can help them in developing agriculture. Food aid is not helpful because that just puts a “band-aid” on the problem. Say no to food aid and figure out how to reach these countries and help them learn to grow their own food and become self-sufficient. Take this class with Dr. Nalley and you can do just that!
2. Advanced Agricultural Marketing Management
This class is usually pretty small and the professor gives you a lot of freedom. It is a project based class and super beneficial to anyone entering a career in agricultural business. This fun class gives you the opportunity to form groups and pick your own project topic to research. The research project gives students the opportunity to dive deeper into the agriculture industry and come up with ideas that could potentially help the agriculture industry if more steps were taken. Who doesn’t love researching new things and figuring out ways to help the industries in our nation grow?
3. Death and Dying
Death and dying? What? That’s an actual class? Yep, it sure is and it is taught at the University of Arkansas! This fun and interesting class is very insightful to the world of death and dying. Apparently there are different types of death, and this class tells you all about that! Do you have anxiety about dying? Well in this class, you take an inventory on that at the beginning of the class and at the end to see the difference! Maybe this class will answer any questions that you have about death in general. Should be interesting!
4. Human Anatomy
While this class requires a lot of work and memorizing, it is totally beneficial to anyone, not just doctors. But while we’re on the subject, who wouldn’t want to be a doctor like on Grey’s Anatomy?! This class is super fun and you’ll be surprised at how much you learn! After takingthis class, you’ll be talking just like they do on Grey’s. And maybe you’ll even understand them when they are diagnosing someone or performing a surgery. You will for sure be smarter after taking this cool class!
5. Animal Breeding and Genetics
You’re probably thinking, “Who wants to learn about animal breeding and genetics?” But my question is, “Who doesn’t?” This class is incredibly fascinating and intuitive. In this class you can work to discover livestock production problems to help producers fix them. You can learn about gene mapping and DNA sequencing within the livestock industry and so much more. If that doesn’t sound cool, then I don’t know what is!
6. Teaching in Inclusive Secondary Settings
Surely teaching can’t be fun, right? Wrong. This teaching class is super cool and can be taken online at the university. I find it quite interesting. This class gives you everything that you need to know when dealing with people who have any type of disability. You can help make their lives easier as well as your own. So if you’re into being a helpful and kind person, take this class to learn how to help these people a little more. There is a required book to read for this class and it really opens up your eyes. Not all disabilities can be seen. And not all of them can be helped. But we can make it easier on them.
7. Methods of Teaching Agriculture
So in case you haven’t caught on by now, I am a very agriculture based student. Even if you do not want to teach agriculture, this class is great for anyone who wants to teach or is even the slightest bit interested in it. The things that you will do in this class are super cool and fun!You have to create an interest approach that will get students interested in the lesson, you have to present a “microteach” which is a mini lesson in front of your class, and before the semester isover with, you get to create your own lesson plan and go out into an actual high school classroom and teach while being videoed by a partner! How cool is that?! You’re a student, but you get the opportunity to teach other students!
8. Leadership Development
If you feel like you don’t know anything about yourself, take this class. This is probably one of the most eye-opening, interesting classes that I have had. You will take so many tests. But not actual tests. Personality tests. You will figure out what your strengths are, your weaknesses, whether you are an introvert or extrovert, you will get to take the True Colors test to see what you are. Are you blue, the compassionate person? Green, super analytical and logical? Maybe you’re Orange, witty and spontaneous? Or Gold, stable and organized? Whatever you are, you will find out in this class and you will learn more about yourself than ever before!!
Electricity? Yes, that’s what I said. It may sound scary and hard, but it is honestly a super cool class and everyone that has taken it, loved it. The professor is a great guy and easy to get along with and I don’t think you could find anyone better to teach this class because he is also one of the smartest people I have ever met. But this class is so exciting. You get to learn how electricity works! You get to learn how to wire things and make them work yourself! You can’t tell me that that is not incredibly cool! You will learn so much that you could probably go home and rewire your entire house!! But, maybe you shouldn’t try that. Just in case.
10. Small Gas Engines
Here is another one of these classes where you’re probably thinking, “What in the world?” Well, this has, by far, been one of my favorite classes at the university. I don’t know anything about engines or cars or parts or any of that stuff. But, after this class I now have a basic knowledge. This class is not difficult and the lab that goes with it is super fun! You get to take apart an entire engine and put it back together, as well as several other things. You get to learn all of the main parts and how each thing works. I don’t know about you, but I love all hands-on activities and learning about how things work! You definitely learn a lot more in classes like this. This is the coolest class I have taken!
