Both UC Irvine and CSU Fullerton are amazing schools, but I think all UCI Anteaters can agree that UC Irvine is better. Not only does UCI do breakthrough research, but the campus is more interesting and lively as well. Both schools are in Orange County, but only one of them can be the best! Keep reading to find out why UCI is better than CSU Fullerton.

1. UC Irvine is closer to the beach

The best part about UC Irvine is how close it is to Newport Beach. It takes about 15 minutes to drive to Newport Beach from the UC Irvine campus. This is a great, quick getaway for students. CSU Fullerton does not have a beach close to it, and most students have to typically drive 40 minutes to get to the beach. This time does not include the time that they will most likely spend in traffic!

2. UC Irvine‘s mascot is an Anteater

UC Irvine’s mascot is Peter the Anteater, while CSU Fullerton‘s mascot is Tuffy the Titan. Tuffy the Titan is an elephant, which isn’t as unique and exciting as an anteater. Many people don’t actually know what an anteater is until they go to UC Irvine. On the other hand, everyone knows what an elephant is! Elephants are cool, but not as cool as anteaters!

3. UC Irvine‘s campus has a park in the middle of it

UC Irvine is shaped in a big circle and has a park in the middle of it. The park is also known as Aldrich Park, and it is a place where students can take naps, have picnics, and have study sessions. The park is very big and allows for students to take shortcuts to class by following different dirt paths. CSU Fullerton does not have a large park in the middle of the campus. Although there are grassy areas on campus, they are nothing like Aldrich Park!

4. UC Irvine is well known for its research

CSU Fullerton does not have much research that goes on in the university. On the other hand, UC Irvine has done a very large amount of cutting edge research, and UCI students are involved in research as well. UCI‘s research benefits society and gives students the ability to have a large role in a lab even when they are still undergraduates. CSU Fullerton gives great opportunities to its students too, but not research opportunities!

5. UC Irvine has a University Town Center

UC Irvine has a University Town Center that has Blaze Pizza, Chipotle, Target, and many other stores and restaurants. This shopping center is ideal for students, since it is filled with stores that students regularly go to. On the other hand, CSUF does not have a Target, Chipotle, or Blaze within walking distance of the school. Students often have to drive or take cars to get to those types of places.

Cal State Fullerton is a great school… but UC Irvine is better! The UC Irvine campus has a park in the middle of it, and is close to different places that students enjoy going to. If students get tired of the campus, they can easily drive over to Newport Beach for some time in the sun. UC Irvine is a hidden gem in Orange County, and it is a great school!
