One of the first classes that HDFS majors take is HDFS 1070. This classes touches on the fundamental aspects that are in the field of HDFS. It is truly an interesting class, and many recommend it to all majors. Here are 5 course concepts for HDFS 1070.
1. Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory
One of the first topics taught in the class is Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory. This is a really interesting topic because it relates to each part of an individual’s life. The main idea is that there are several levels that effect a person’s life, and it’s important to understand that to improve generations.
Pregnancy is the next topic discussed in the class. In most courses pregnancy is taught in biological context, however in HDFS 1070 it is taught as a social construct. The course discusses the problems that cause teen pregnancies, as well as the consequences of different teratogens.
3. Role Taking
Role taking is another social construct that is taught in HDFS 1070. Every milestone an individual goes through they have to learn to accept a new role. For example, when people have their first child they have to experience taking on a new role of a parent. These role taking experiences are very important in society.
4. Erickson’s Stages of Development
One of the most important theories for infancy through adolescence is Erickson’s stages of development. These stages are probably one of the most influential information taught in the class. The theory explains the issues in each developmental stage that need to be solved in order to succeed in society.
5. Old Age
The last material taught in the class is the topic of old age. While it is not the most interesting topic; it is still important. In this lesson old age is described as a new role that people take on. There are different ways people combat old age, and of course some ways are better than others.
Overall this class is very insightful. While Professor Sabatelli, the primary lecturer for the course, has retired the course has a lot of useful information. Also, it’s a requirement for HDFS majors. While it’s mandatory to take for HDFS majors, it truly is an amazing class.
