Everyone at UConn knows that a Winter on campus is brutal. Between the coldness and the wind most people try not to venture outside. However, students have to get to class somehow even if the weather is terrible. Here are some tips on how to survive a Winter at UConn.

1. Take the buses

The UConn buses are so confusing, and everyone is aware of that. UConn has tried to make it less confusing with the bus app, however students are still frustrated with the bus experience. While the buses are hard to use they are a blessing in the Winter. Nobody wants to be outside during the UConn Winter therefore students should take the bus to get anywhere on campus. Whether that be classes or to get food the buses are a necessary evil to use in the Winter.

2. Bring a warm coat

A great thing to bring back to campus from break is a big, warm coat. The temperature on campus can range from 40 to negative 4 degrees therefore a comfy, extremely warm jacket is necessary. Everyone on campus will be bundled up in their warmest jacket, so it’s important to remember to bring back a coat.

3. Hot Drinks

There are many places to get food and drinks on campus. One of the most notable places on campus is the Dunkin Donuts in the Student Union. There is always a long line, however smart huskies use the on the go app to cut the line. Even smarter huskies weather the coldness on campus by only drinking hot drinks. These hot drinks are good to not only keep someone’s belly warm, but also their hands.

4. Warm Accessories

Another great thing to bring back to campus from break is some warm accessories. Accessories such as hats, gloves, and wool socks are very necessary for surviving a Winter at UConn. Especially for students that have late classes warm accessories are perfect for the Winter. Students need to remember that the better the accessory the warmer they will be at UConn.

5. Find inside routes

Another great idea to survive the Winter at UConn is to find routes to class that allow students to go inside buildings. When UConn gets really cold it is very hard to walk outside to class. Smart Huskies find routes to their classes that allow them to stay warm. Students that have been on campus for long enough know the best, and fastest routes to places on campus especially for the Winter. Younger Huskies should ask their upperclassmen friends to find out how to get around campus, warmly.

The Winter at UConn is very rough, however using these tips will help students make it more bearable. These tips are really helpful for freshmen or transfer students because the first Winter at UConn is extremely hard. So get ready Huskies for the worst weather UConn has to offer, Winter!
