Health and Wellness Resources at the University of Denver

The University of Denver is a private research university located in Denver, Colorado. The university offers a variety of health and wellness resources to its undergraduate population of nearly 6,000 students. Among these are resources related to physical, mental, and sexual health. Here are five health and wellness resources offered to students at the University of Denver that all current and prospective students should know about.

1. The University of Denver Health and Counseling Center

The mission of the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center is to provide students at the university with exceptional, inclusive, integrated healthcare. The center stresses the importance of both physical and mental health to a successful university experience. The center provides a variety of medical services and counseling services. Staff include physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and other trained medical professionals. Students can count on quality healthcare here. Services offered include women's health, immunizations, dental care, allergy injections, lab tests, travel health, urgent care, after-hours care, and referrals to outside medical resources.

2. Immunizations

Immunizations are offered to students at the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center. Vaccines available include but are not limited to flu, seasonal flu (influenza), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV (Human Papillomavirus), and travel vaccinations. Students should make sure that they are in compliance with university immunization requirements, and if they are not, they may fix that problem right here on campus.

3. Women's Health Services

Women's Health Services are available at the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center. Services are supportive, confidential, and non-judgmental, and include emergency contraception on-site, gynecologic exams (including Pap smears), STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) testing, pregnancy testing and consultation, and contraceptive counseling.

4. Urgent Care and After-Hours Care

Students who come into the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center with an urgent care concern may be advised to go to an emergency room or urgent care, seen and treated at the HCC if appropriate, or provided with home care instructions and given an appointment for the next day. Students with an urgent mental health concern should call 303-871-2205 or come to the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center. For after-hours emergency calls, students should contact Campus Safety at 303-871-3000 and ask to speak to the "counselor-on-call." This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Psychiatric hospitalization is available if necessary.

5. Counseling Services

Counseling Services at the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center has a mission of promoting students' academic and personal success. Staff can help with situational problems, a crises or have long-standing mental health concerns. Professional staff includes licensed psychologists, licensed social workers, and supervised graduate student staff from both of these disciplines. Students will receive support in transitioning to the university and through other transitions in their lives. Services are all confidential (except in the case of a life-threatening situation, which legally requires information to be released). Students seeking help may choose to pursue treatment that involves one or more of the different types of therapy offered, ranging from individual counseling to group counseling with licensed professionals.
