16 Online Courses at University of Houston - 2021 Pandemic Edition

Every year, many students enroll in courses at the University of Houston. Recently, an increase in online courses have been provided for students who wish to study from home. Actor James Franco is a notable alumni who has succeeded, thanks to the University. Here are 16 online courses offered at the University of Houston.

1. Value-Based Care: Organizational Competencies (Free)

This course is taught by Susie Gronseth. This course is designed to introduce students to the changes an organization will need to make to succeed in value-based care and payment. Students will have flexible deadlines to complete this 4 hour course. The course gives students a shareable certificate at the end for their credit.

2. The Bilingual Brain (Free)

This course allows students to earn a shareable certificate for their credit. It will take about 15 hours to complete online. This course explores the brain bases of bilingualism by discussing literature relevant to differences in age of initial learning, proficiency, and control in the nonverbal, single language and dual-language literature. The online instructor for the course is Professor Hernandez.

3.Value-Based Care: Quality Improvement in Organizations (Free)

In this course, students will explore ways that provider organizations can successfully move from volume to value through implementing Quality Improvement plans and Continuous Quality Improvement. Susie Gronseth is the professor for this online course. Students will have flexible deadlines to complete this 5 hour course. After course completion, they will receive a shareable certificate.

4. Value-Based Care: Managing Processes to Improve Outcomes (Free)

In this course, students will focus on office-based and clinical patient-based supporting functions. They will have 6 hours to complete the course on their own time and will receive a shareable certificate at the end of the course. The instructor for the course is Professor Woodard.

5. COVID-19 Contact Tracing For Nursing Professionals (Free)

This course is taught by Professor McManaman-Bridges. Students will earn a shareable certificate upon course completion. Covid-19 Contact Tracing For Nursing Professionals was created for anyone who wants a certificate in Contact Tracing, and especially for RN's who would like to obtain 10 CEU credits from The Texas Nurses Association. This course would take 11 hours to complete.

6. Math behind Moneyball (Free)

This course has flexible deadlines for students and will take 65 hours to complete. The professor for the online course is Professor Winston. Students will learn about how probability, math, and statistics can be used to help baseball, football and basketball teams improve, player and lineup selection as well as in game strategy.

7. Population Health During A Pandemic: Contact Tracing and Beyond (Free)

This online course is taught by Bettina Beech. This course provides an overview of the far-reaching impact of COVID-19 and presents contact tracing as a tool to mitigate the spread of the disease. This course will take 22 hours to complete, and students can earn a shareable certificate for credit.

8. Value-Based Care: Reimbursement Models (Free)

This course allows students to earn a shareable certificate. It has flexible deadlines for students to complete on their own time. Students will explore why the fee-for-service model has contributed to higher costs in the U.S. healthcare system without clearly improving health outcomes. The instructor is Susie Gronseth and the course will take 5 hours to complete.

9. Powerful Tools for Teaching and Learning: Web 2.0 Tools (Free)

Bernard Robin is the instructor for this online course. Students can complete the 14 hour course on their own time to earn a shareable certificate. They will learn about a wide variety of Web 2.0 tools to use in teaching and learning.

10. Powerful Tools for Teaching and Learning: Digital Storytelling (Free)

Bernard Robin is the instructor for this online course. Students will earn a shareable certificate after completing the 14 hour coursework. The course covers the basic process of creating a digital story starting with just a simple script, and as little as one image.

11. Value-Based Care: Capstone Project (Free)

This course can be completed in 5 hours to earn a shareable certificate. You will connect with a team member or supportive colleague to review some of the work that you have completed in this specialization with the capstone project. With their insights, you may further enhance your understanding of VBC. The instructor is Professor Gronseth.

12. Preparing for the AP Physics 1 Exam (Free)

This course is taught by Dr. Evans. This course is designed for high school students preparing to take the AP* Physics 1 Exam. The session will take 16 hours to complete, and students will earn a sharable certificate.

13. Value-Based Care: Introduction to Value-Based Care and the U.S. Healthcare System (Free)

Professor Woodard is the instructor for this online course. Students will learn how each of the mechanisms emerged, the populations served, and what changes occurred over time, with a focus on funding and expenditures. They will earn a shareable certificate at the end when completing this 6 hour course.

14. American Deaf Culture (Free)

Students have flexible deadlines to complete this 5 hour course. This is a six-week course, providing a historical overview of the American Deaf community and its evolving culture. Terrell Brittain teaches this course, and students will earn a shareable certificate at the end of the course.

15. A Brief History of Human Spaceflight (Free)

Dr. Layne teaches this 21 hour online course . This course provides a view of the history of spaceflight, from early writings telling of human's fascination of space through the early Russian and American space stations. Students will earn a shareable certificate after completing the course.

16. Value-Based Care: Population Health (Free)

This course is designed to introduce students to the concept of population health and related key terms. The coursework takes 7 hours to complete, and students will earn a shareable certificate. Professor Woodard is the instructor for the course.
