Business 101 can be interesting or dreadful depending on each class. With these tips, you’ll be sure to do well whether you enjoy the concepts discussed or not.

1. Look at assignments early.

You’ll have a paper due every week, so it’s best to get started early rather than try to write it all the night before. These essays are usually longer too, which is why waiting till the last minute to see what’s due for class isn’t the best idea. In addition to writing papers, you’ll typically have to do another assignment, whether it be a simulation or watch videos. BUS 101 assignments take time to finish.

2. Read the rubric.

READ THE RUBRIC. I REPEAT: READ THE RUBRIC. Your section leaders will grade your essays based off the rubric. Go through your paper once you’ve finished writing and make sure you can check off each of the requirements listed in the assignment. It’s simple: If you answered the question they asked, then you get the points. If you didn’t, then you don’t get the points.

3. Get to lecture on time.

There are two colored pieces of paper they hand out every week. One piece of paper means you were on time and the other means you weren’t. Getting the correct paper means you’ll receive easy points for the day. Don’t be late!

4. Sit in the front.

Honestly, BUS 101 can be boring sometimes. So how do you prevent yourself from dozing off while someone is talking about stakeholders in large corporations? You sit in the front. You’ll be forced to stay awake because the speaker will more than likely call you out if you’re eyelids start to feel heavy.

5. Befriend someone in your BUS 101 section.

It’s always good to have a friend in your discussion section. You do a lot of role-playing, so having a buddy nearby to rely on for those partner activities is always a relief. Plus, you might want to exchange contact info in case you have a question about the homework or need to borrow a book for an assignment.

Although it isn’t always the most fun class, cherish your time in it…because pretty soon you’ll be taking harder classes and you’re going to long for the days you were in Business 101.
