The University of Maryland, College Park is a public research university in College Park, Maryland. One of the most famous alumni of the college is
Sergey Brin, co-founded Google and is a famous computer scientist and internet entrepreneur. Computer science is a very math-heavy course. Here are 10 different math courses that you absolutely must check out.

1. MATH140 Calculus I

This course is an introduction to calculus. Topics covered include functions, limits, continuity, derivatives and applications of the derivative. Students will also learn about sketching graphs of functions, definite and indefinite integrals, and calculation of area.

The course is especially recommended for science, engineering, and mathematics majors. The course is taught by professor Steven Chadwick. The course requires students to have gotten a minimum grade of C- in MATH115 or must have math eligibility of MATH140 or higher, and math eligibility is based on the Math Placement Test.

2. MATH141 Calculus II

This course is a continuation of MATH140 (calculus I). The course includes techniques of integration, improper integrals, applications of integration (such as volumes, work, arc length, moments), inverse functions, exponential and logarithmic functions. Students will also learn about sequences and series.

The prerequisite of the course is successful completion with a minimum grade of C- in MATH140 or 1 course with a minimum grade of B- from (MATH130MATH136); and permission of CMNS-Mathematics department. The course is taught by professor Steven Chadwick. The course is worth 4 credits.

3. MATH115 Precalculus

This course is preparation for MATH120MATH130 or MATH140. Students will learn about elementary functions and graphs such as polynomials, rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions. Students will also learn about trigonometric functions and algebraic techniques preparatory for calculus.

In order to register for the course, students must have math eligibility of MATH115 or higher; and math eligibility is based on the Math Placement Exam or the successful completion of MATH003 with appropriate eligibility or MATH113. The professor of the course is Raluca Rosca. The course is worth 3 credits.

4. MATH310 Introduction to Mathematical Proof

This course is meant to develop the students' ability to construct a rigorous proof of a mathematical claim. Students will learn to analyze mathematical models. Topics will be drawn from logic, set theory, the structure of the number line, elementary topology, metric spaces, functions, sequences, and continuity.

The course requires students to have completed with a minimum grade of C- in MATH141; and must have completed or been concurrently enrolled in MATH240MATH341, or MATH461; and must have completed or been concurrently enrolled in MATH241 or MATH340. The course is taught by Niranjan Ramachandran. The course is worth 3 credit hours.

5. MATH406 Introduction to Number Theory

This course covers integers, divisibility, and prime numbers. Students will learn about unique factorization, congruences, and quadratic reciprocity. Students will also learn about Diophantine equations and arithmetic functions.

In order to register for the course, you must have taken 1 course with a minimum grade of from MATH240, MATH241, MATH246, MATH340, MATH341, MATH461; or permission of CMNS-Mathematics department. The course is worth 3 credit hours. Niranjan Ramachandran is the professor of the course.

6. MATH461 Linear Algebra for Scientists and Engineers

This course teaches students about linear spaces and operators, orthogonality, Sturm-Liouville problems, and eigenfunction expansions for ordinary differential equations. It covers an introduction to partial differential equations, including the heat equation, wave equation, and Laplace's equation. Students will also learn about boundary value problems, initial value problems, and initial-boundary value problems.

In order to register for the course, students must have completed 1 course with a minimum grade of C- from either MATH241, MATH340; and 1 course with a minimum grade of C- from MATH246, MATH341. Nirangan Ramachandran is the professor for the course. The course is worth 3 credit hours.

7. MATH340 Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations I

This course is the first semester of the MATH340-341 sequence which gives a unified and enriched treatment of multivariable calculus. This course covers linear algebra and ordinary differential equations, with supplementary material from subjects such as differential geometry, Students will also learn about Fourier series and calculus of variations.

In oreder to register for the course students must have completed MATH141 and MATH140; and permission of CMNS-Mathematics department; and permission will be granted only to incoming freshmen. The course is taught b Niranjan Ramachandran. The course is worth 3 credit hours.

8. MATH246 Differential Equations for Scientists and Engineers

This course is an introduction to the basic methods of solving ordinary differential equations. Students will learn about equations of first and second-order, and linear differential equations. Students will also learn about Laplace transforms numerical methods and the qualitative theory of differential equations.

This course is specifically meant for those who are in the science or engineering major. The course is only to be taken after the student has a minimum grade of C- in MATH141. The course is taught by professor David Hamilton.

9. MATH241 Calculus III

This course is an introduction to multivariable calculus, including vectors and vector-valued functions. The course covers partial derivatives and applications of partial derivatives (such as tangent planes and Lagrange multipliers). The course also covers multiple integrals, volume, surface area, and the classical theorems of Green, Stokes, and Gauss.

In order to take the course, students must have taken the course with a minimum grade of C- in MATH141. The course is meant for students who are majoring in math, science, or engineering. The course is taught by David Hamilton.

10. MATH410 Advanced Calculus I

This course is the first semester of a year-long course. Subjects covered during the year are sequences and series of numbers, continuity, and differentiability of real-valued functions of one variable, the Riemann integral, sequences of functions, and power series. Students will learn about the functions of several variables including partial derivatives, multiple integrals, line, and surface integrals.

In order to register for the course, students must have gotten a minimum grade of C- from MATH240, MATH461, MATH341; and 1 course with a minimum grade of C- from MATH340, MATH241; and a minimum grade of C- in MATH310. Or students who have taken courses with comparable content may contact the department. The course is taught by professor David Hamilton.

The University of Maryland is a school that has a wide variety of different math courses to take. The school has baseline courses for math such as precalculus and calculus. It also has more tailored courses such as MATH 245 that is specifically for students who are in a science or engineering major.
