Sometimes the dining halls on campus aren’t going to cut it. No matter who you are, you’ve probably gotten tired of eating the same food from the dining halls every day. Among the numerous pizza places by Route 1, Blaze Pizza is definitely a favorite among students at UMD. You can try one of their amazing signature pizzas, or even build your own custom masterpiece using their fresh ingredients! Just remember to save room for dessert, because Blaze serves up some mean s’mores, brownies, and cookies!
Right by the intersection of Knox Road and Baltimore Avenue lies this Afro-Portuguese style restaurant. Have a seat inside their hip and decorative interior while enjoying their special flame-grilled chicken, and other Portuguese cuisine. It’s super close to campus and serves many flavorful dishes with a spicy kick, making it a perfect place to eat on a night out!
You probably know at least one person who’s obsessed with eating at Chipotle, and who can blame them? Chipotle proudly claims to serve naturally-grown ingredients, offering you the choice of what to put in your custom burrito, bowl, or taco. It’s a hot spot for UMD students though, don’t be surprised if the place is completely packed!
Conveniently located across the street from Chipotle, Pho Thom serves a variety of authentic Vietnamese and Thai dishes, with pho being their specialty. Pho is kind of Vietnamese soup served with noodles and your choice of meat, much more filling than cup ramen. It’s a delicious, cheap, and fast meal, perfect for cold winter evenings!
Definitely a big hotspot outside of campus for sports fans, sit down during happy hour to enjoy some fantastic pub food in a lively atmosphere! If you’re at least 21 years old, Looney’s have many deals on drinks and cocktails to go with your meal. It’s a great place to have a good time while watching the game on their numerous giant TVs!
A little far from campus compared to the rest of the places on this list, but nonetheless it’s the place to go to if you’re craving breakfast foods. French toast, pancakes, waffles, omelets, you name it. Their hours are also fantastic, with 24 hour service on Fridays and Saturdays for anyone hungry late at night!
7. Kangnam BBQ
A very popular sports bar and grill located on Route 1, this place specializes in table-top Korean Barbeque, freshly cooked right in front of you! Kangnam also offers other Asian cuisine, including Korean soups, Japanese sushi, and other rice entrees. If you’re 21 or over, enjoy some traditional Korean Soju with your food while watching your favorite sports game!
One of the best and most convenient places to stop by for a quick breakfast outside of campus. This family run business offers freshly roasted coffee and espresso to go with their fantastic bagels and sandwiches. The restaurant is close to campus, right next to Blaze Pizza, and the staff are the friendliest around, definitely one of UMD’s favorites.
This restaurant is the farthest away from campus of anyone on the list, but it’s worth the trip to try their Peruvian style charbroiled chicken! They also offer many different South American style meats, sandwiches, and salads. If time isn’t an issue when looking for something great to eat, Sardi’s is an amazing option!
Anyone from Maryland or Virginia knows that Five Guys is the place to go to for fantastic and easy burgers. Just like Chipotle, you can have your burgers custom made with whatever ingredients you want! To go with your burger, they also serve up some amazing fresh cut fries, along with free boxes of peanuts for an appetizer.
