With everything going on during the weekdays, the tailgates and games on Saturdays, and all the studying on Sundays, Friday nights are usually the only time that people can actually hang out.
If you ever find yourself bored on a Friday night, sitting in one of the sofas in your hall’s lounge, munching on a bag of chips, without the slightest idea of what to do (but wanting so much to do something), go to one of the places on this list.
You will have a great night in each and every one of them.
1. Good Time Charley’s
Charley’s is the place to go to if you want to chill with your friends and have an all-around good time. There’s food, drinks, and great company! What else do you need?
Depending on the night you go, they have karaoke, and you can always request songs to be played. If it’s packed, get ready to wait for your food though. They sometimes take a while to serve because of the huge crowd that rushes in after nine.
The quesadillas are to die for, and the black bean burger is delicious. If you want a drink, they usually have a wide variety of beers and liqueurs; they are best know for their shooters and fishbowls though.
Rick’s is one of the most widely known dance clubs in Ann Arbor. It’s dark, it’s fun, and it’s loud. (A great combination, if you ask me.) For recommendations, grab any of the shark bowls, they are amazing.
If you feeling like dancing, this is the place to go. Grab a small group of friends, and walk over to 611 Church St. You won’t regret it, that’s a promise.
(Not sure if it’s just because it’s Rick’s, but so many people have met their significant others here. ;))
3. House Parties
Go to house parties if you’re looking for a fun night out, but don’t feel like going to a restaurant or club. There’s usually loud music and a whole bunch of people you haven’t met.
They’re also cleaner than frat parties, and much, much better in general.
You will need to know someone to get in, since they’re not always open to the general public. The good thing though, is that they let both guys and girls in, so you won’t have to worry about the ratio of guys to girls in your group!
4. Frat Parties
Even though they’re last on the list (and for a good reason), frat parties can be entertaining. They’re open to all girls, but guys can have a really hard time getting in if they don’t know any of the pledge brothers or if they don’t bring at least two or more girls with them.
If you manage to get in though, there’s pumping music and people dancing, so you can definitely still enjoy the night out with your friends.
Depending on the frat house’s location, you might be in for a fifteen to twenty-minute walk, so be sure to wear at least semi-comfortable shoes. (And keep in mind that, if you’re a guy or are in a group that’s predominantly guys, you might not be able to get in.)
Hopefully, this list helped you out in deciding how to spend your Friday night. If it did, I’m glad! You should definitely try out all of the places mentioned here, and see where you feel more comfortable.
Also, don’t be afraid to try out other places that aren’t mentioned here! Ann Arbor is a great college town filled with many other bars, dance clubs houses and frats, one of which will be where you spend some of your happiest college memories in.
