The University of Michigan has one of the top-ranked colleges of engineering in the world. Currently, we’re ranked number 5, easily surpassing hundreds of schools across the world. We’re the leaders and best, and very few colleges can even come close to our ankles. Because of that though, the college of engineering is one of the toughest and most competitive colleges to get into at UMich.

1. Have a good transcript

It sounds cliché, but it really does make a difference. You need to be responsible and an all-around good student to survive here, and transcripts usually show what type of student you are. That’s not to say that it’s the only thing the university will look at during your admission process, but it’s definitely a very important aspect of it.

2. Have extracurriculars

They can be anything from community service to being in band or part of the student council. It doesn’t matter. The University of Michigan is home to thousands of students that have thousands of favorite pastimes. Grades are important, but they shouldn’t be your only focus.

3. Great recommendation letter

Contact your favorite teacher. Sit down and talk with them. If they’re willing, ask them to write your recommendation letter. They don’t even have to teach Science or Math. As long as you find someone who you think has impacted you, and who you think you’ve impacted, you’ll be fine.

4. Be confident

Be certain in your abilities. Believe that you can do it, and you will. Michigan Wolverines are tough as nails; have grit and stamina. Don’t doubt yourself. Up until the moment when you apply, you would’ve already done everything and anything that you could have possibly done to get in. There’s nothing you can do now but know that you’re getting in.

5. Be passionate

The lucky ones who end up at the University of Michigan find themselves here because they love it; because they wanted to come. Michigan Engineers are here for the knowledge, the experience, and the passion that comes with being a Wolverine. It’s a thrill and a wild ride filled with hard work and long hours spent studying. Be passionate about that, of the hard work you’re going to have to put in now to be victorious in the long run.

Don’t worry, you got it. As long as you follow these easy tips, you’ll be accepted into the College of Engineering in no time.
