Freshmen are advised to live in one of the school dormitories. Although the price of a school dormitory may not be as good as that of some apartments or houses on the market, it may take some time for the new students to get used to life at school, so the dormitory can provide some buffer time. After receiving an offer of acceptance, you will receive an email from the school about applying for the dormitory , or you can sign up at http://housing.umn.edu for dormitory applications. There are a couple different dorm buildings, including: Yudof, Stadium Village, and Wilkins Hall. If the dormitory application is submitted late, students may be assigned to expanded housing. Dormitory applications allow students to select their preferences of dormitory and room type

1. Sanford Hall

Is located in the edge of the school, living here students will be on the east coast of some of the teaching buildings- this dorm is a little far, the walk to most places is about 10-15 minutes, but students can take a bus to shorten the commute. This dorm has great food options nearby which is why many students like to live there. It is comprised of two buildings – one specifically for freshman and the other for students of any year of study. On the first floor of the building there is a small supermarket.

In terms of roommates, if you know people you can apply to live together when you fill out the dorm application form. If not, do not worry, the school will match you up with a compatible roommate based on the living habits you indicate on your application. Each floor has a community advisor (CA), which is usually a senior student. CA’s sometimes organize floor activities, and  they help to resolve any disagreements and roommate issues. If you have any questions or concerns, you should reach out to your community advisor for help.
