Why i chose unh

At large schools, sometimes the amount of partying that is inevitable among most college students can feel overwhelming to someone who does not like to spend their weekend that way. Fortunately, you are not alone! Even though you are not a party goer, sitting in your dorm room watching Netflix on a Friday night may not cure your boredom all the time. Here are five places to go at the University of New Hampshire— with a friend, or alone– that can make your weekends fun WITHOUT having to find the best party around.

1. DHOP!

Durham House of Pizza located right on Main St. is a perfect place to go with a group of friends who may not want to go to a party on a Friday night. Not only is the pizza amazing, but DHOP offers you and your friends a place to eat, drink, and chat without having to feel cooped up in your dorm room. Next time you find yourself bored on a weekend night, text a friend and take a walk down to the Durham House Of Pizza. You can eat great food, and get to know your friends a little better– over non alcoholic drinks.

2. The Lounge on Your Floor.

Most likely, the other people on your floor will be here on a Friday night if they are not out at a party. Sitting in the lounge can get you out of your room, provides entertainment (the lounges usually have TV’s), and could possibly help you make some new friends! Other people may sit in the lounge on weekend nights in hopes to find someone just like them, and you could be that someone! The best place to meet people similar to you is to get out there and mingle! Soon enough, lonely weekends will be a thing of the past.

3. The MUB.

Despite what everyone might think, the MUB actually does have something for everyone to do during the weekends. If you can not stand sitting in your room for another minute, take a walk to the Memorial Union Building right on Main St. The University usually has some sort of entertainment for students on weekend nights, and there is always the movie theater, which does in fact play recent films. This is a great opportunity to meet other people with no interest in going to a party, and to potentially make new weekend friends!

4. The Dairy Bar.

The Dairy Bar is right on campus and is a great way to spend your night if you are in the mood for some ice cream, a shake, or just some tasty food! Grab a friend and take a walk to the dairy bar! Nothing says friendship like sharing ice cream on a Friday night!

5. Anywhere the bus or train can take you for a reasonable price.

Here at the University of New Hampshire, we are incredibly lucky to have multiple forms of transportation to take us to many different places. Plan a trip to Boston with a friend. Take a look at the train schedule and make a trip into the city. If you’re on more of a budget this weekend, take a look at the bus times for the Wildcat Transit! Portsmouth or Dover both have great shops, food, and other entertainment that can ensure you a fun night out!

Although you may feel like it, you are NOT the only person on campus that does not go to a party every weekend. Find a friend like you, and venture out onto the campus and into the rest of New Hampshire! There’s so much to explore and enjoy, and what better time to do it then a weekend with nothing planned? Enjoy!
