Positivity

It is statistically proven that self-esteem plummets for students during their freshmen year of college. Fortunately, there are many ways to prevent this from happening to you. College is a great experience for students everywhere. Every moment should be looked at with a positive mindset. There are many ways to stay positive during your freshmen year. With a little effort, you will feel great and live your year to the fullest here at UNH.

1. Exercise and eat healthy.

It is a proven fact that the average person will feel better about themselves if they are taking care of their bodies. In college, it is easy to stray away from exercise and eat too much. Especially at UNH, unlimited food is so easy to access, and portion sizes may be unfamiliar to you. Put effort into learning how to maintain a healthy body. Make time to go to the gym. A good workout can make you feel great about yourself!

2. Stay on top of schoolwork.

Staying on top of work and completing work as it is assigned is a great way to stay positive. By avoiding procrastination and not letting assignments pile up, you’re also avoiding lots of stress. Getting work done means more time to yourself. That way, you can do things that interest you and keep you happy. A happier you automatically leads to a more positive mindset.

3. Develop relationships with genuine people.

College is all about meeting people. Especially at UNH, there are roughly 15,000 students that you could potentially become friends with. As a college freshmen, you know what qualities you would like a friend to have. Surround yourself with good people during for first few months of college. Make sure they are people you actually want to be friends with. In college, many people make friends quickly because they are afraid of feeling lonely. Choose your friends wisely and make sure they are people who will make your first semester less stressful.

4. Do not be afraid to relax.

We all know the feeling of never having time to relax in college. However, this is an essential for staying positive your first semester. If there is a UNH football game or hockey game you would like to go to, then go. If your friends are going out on a Friday night, join them! Although academics are important, so is having fun. Know what is most important, but also make sure you’re keeping yourself happy.

Freshmen year for college students can be a struggle. Taking care of yourself physically, mentally, socially and academically are the key components to leading a positive life during your first year at UNH.
