As most of us know, every student goes through stages during their semester. Whether it be socially, academically, emotionally, etc., every student knows the struggle of getting through college semesters. Here are 5 stages of a semester for UNH students.

1. You’re excited about your new classes!

Everyone is refreshed and ready to go during the beginning of the semester. If it is first semester, the weather is nice and there is lots of activity outside and around campus, whether it be events, or just students laying out on Thompson Hall Lawn. Everyone is motivated and ready to take on the semester.

2. The stress starts to kick in.

After a few weeks pass, classes start picking up the pace and students begin to receive lots of assignments. Everyone starts to feel stressed, and students begin to spend more time in the Dimond Library. Everyone still has that sense of motivation, however, and everyone is trying their best to stay on top of their work.

3. The ugly middle of the semester.

This is when work is really starting to pick up, and many students become overwhelmed. Mid terms usually happen around this time which calls for more studying and less partying. Students feel less motivated, and the walks to class seem to be getting longer and longer.

4. Class starts to get less interesting – so you just don’t go.

If it is the first semester of the year, the air is cold by this time and most likely there is snow on the ground. This means that there is less motivation among students to leave their warm beds in the mornings and get up for class. Everyone is struggling to get through the remaining weeks of the semester, and motivation is almost completely gone.

5. Finals week.

Everyone spends all of their time in Dimond Library, or studying. Dorms begin to get quiet, as everyone’s stress level is at an all time high and there is no time to waste. Students look forward to screaming their heads off in Dimond Library, and having the opportunity to spend time with some puppies to relieve stress. Motivation is forced and the week is stressful for everyone.

Overall, the semester is overwhelming for most college students and you will experience a lot throughout the course of a college semester at UNH. However, the campus and the people you meet on campus will make it all bearable, including friends and professors. Have a great semester, wildcats!

Hi! My name is Kayleigh McElroy and I am a student at the University of New Hampshire! Being on campus has taught me a lot about learning how to manage my time, cope with stress, and adjust to the different living conditions! I hope to supply my fellow college students with advice and comfort on all of the situations that come along with being a college student.
