One of the things that VCU is most well-known for is its men’s basketball team, who has played in the NCAA Championships nine times and made it to the Final Four in 2011. Because of the team’s notoriety and popularity amongst the VCU community, home games at the Siegel Center are often jam-packed and full of energy. Listed below are a few things you may need to bring with you to a VCU basketball game.

Black  & Gold Clothing

It is great to wear black and gold clothing to VCU basketball games for several reasons. For one, you are showing you school spirit, but it will also be a great way to blend in with the sea of VCU colors in the student section. Ideally, you could wear VCU-specific gear, but if you don’t have any in your closet then black and gold will do just fine.

Face Paint/Temporary Tattoos

This is a long-time fan tradition and a VCU student favorite. Often attendees of the game will dress up their faces for the occasion with variations of black and gold face paint or glitter. Some students opt for a “half-and-half” look where they paint half of their face black and half of their face gold. Other students add glitter to their cheekbones or around the eyes. A recent fan favorite is small, temporary VCU tattoos with the team’s logo or Rodney Ram on them.

In order to completely dive in to the VCU basketball experience, you should bring some kind of noise maker with you. Cowbells, clappers, party blowers, and horns will all do. Many of the members of the official student section at the games, the Rowdy Rams, will also have these noisy objects to cheer on the team, so you won’t be the only one making noise. Some students pick up noisemakers at the Dollar Tree or the Kroger near the Siegel Center on Broad Street before the games.

Extra Spending Cash

If you didn’t eat a meal before you went to the game, you might get a little hungry. OR, you might get a little thirsty cheering on your team. Unfortunately, the Siegel Center doesn’t allow outside food or drinks in the building. However, if you bring some extra cash, you can buy some of the delicious food served at the concession stand. There’s nothing like candy, soda, or some good ol’ nachos at a sporting event.

VCU basketball games are integral to many students’ experiences at the university. They are a great way to socialize with old and new friends that you want to spend time with doing something fast-paced and exciting. It is especially fun to attend the games with the same spirit as the Rowdy Rams and show your support for the team. Bringing the items from the list above will ensure that you get the most out of your VCU basketball game experience!
