So as you may have heard there are some math classes that you have to take at the Math Emporium here at Virginia Tech. If you talk to anyone that goes to Virginia Tech or has gone to Tech, and you ask them about the Empo, you will most likely get this response “WORST THING EVER”! People’s opinions on the Empo vary, but for the most part people don’t particularly like the Empo. Here are a few tips to surviving in the Pre Calculus Math 1025 course at the Math Emporium.
Make it your duty to try to go there almost everyday
It’s essentially an online class so there’s no actual class period to attend, just assessments that must be taken at the emporium itself.
Practice! Practice! Practice
Keep doing practice problems till you can do it in your sleep, because the problems that are on exams and quizzes are they same just different numbers.
Don’t be afraid to get help from other sources, such as the free tutoring offered at the student success center.
Get advice from others
The lessons for the material on the course website for 1025 aren’t always explained the best, so getting advice from other people in the course is super helpful.
Think outside the box!
This could be applied to anything in anything in general, but there is more than one way to solve problems, especially the problems in MATH 1025. There are numerous problems where instead of doing the traditional style of solving, you can simply get the same answer by doing a shorter and easier way. THIS TIP SAVES A LOT OF TIME!!! FINDING SHORTCUTS TO PROBLEMS IN MATH 1025 WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE SO MUCH EASIER!!
With that being said, MATH 1025 isn’t the worst course in the world but it still requires a decent amount of hard work. With these tips you will be able to survive MATH 1025 and never look back on it.
