FILM1900 is a first year course that can be taken by art students who are required to take courses in different fields. It is a course that requires most course work to be completed  online. Since it is an elective and introductory course it shouldn’t be too difficult. Here are 5 things to expect in FILM1900:

1. Discussion forums

During one of the online classes, the professor will ask you to answer some questions posted in the forums and discuss your opinions on some of the topics discussed in class. It is also necessary to reply to at least two of your classmates’ posts, providing feedback or comments.

2. Quizzes

The course has all its activities done online including the quizzes. The course has weekly quizzes that can be attempted a certain number of times. The score that will be used for the final grade will be the highest score achieved out of all the attempts. Since the quizzes can be retaken it would be best to do so and aim to get a better result for your final grade.

3. Lectures

The lectures are online and so you can watch it at your own convenience. Since the classes are done online, people run into multiple problems like poor audio, unable to see what is being shown, being unable to understand what the professor is trying to explain. If you run into any difficult problems, you should contact the professor.

4. Stress

Although most of the work is done online it doesn’t change the fact that the difficulty is the same. Stress is built up due to an overwhelming amount of things to do and sometimes a lack of sleep. The workload given in the course is quite heavy, eventually stress will start to build up.

5. No exams

The course does not have a final exam at the end of the semester. The total grade is from the online quizzes and activities throughout the semester. Since there is no final exam, you will have to work hard on your quizzes to get good marks to pass the course.

FILM1900 is introductory so as long as you do all the work assigned to you and pay attention to the online classes it shouldn’t be too hard to pass. Although it is an introductory course you still have to take it seriously or you wont get a very good grade.
