1. Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams, the famous actress known for her starring roles in major motion pictures like Mean Girls, The Notebook, and The Vow, is a York University Alumni! Rachel graduated with a degree inTheatre from York University’s Keele campus and her former professors share stories about her with their new classes. She was born and raised in London, Ontario and started her (now massive) career in Canadian television and drama series.

2. Steve Maclean

Steve MacLean, a famous Canadian astronaut holds both a bachelor of science and a doctorate degree in Physics from York. Steve is the recipient of the 1977 President’s Award at York University. His career is long and accomplished, holding the position of president at the Canadian Space Agency from September 2008 to February 2013 and being the very first Canadian to operate the Canadarm2.

3. Lily Singh

One of the most beloved youtube stars internationally, a famous comedian, authour, and actress, Lily Singh, graduated with a bachelor degree in psychology from York University. Lily’s career has exploded over the past few years, collaborating on projects with huge stars like Dwayne the Rock Johnson and Will Smith.  Lily talks in interviews about being involved with the dance team at York University and how her degree has contributed to her career in ways far from how she would have expected it to.

4. John Tory

The 65th mayor of Toronto, John Tory, graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in 1978. In addition to his service as mayor, his career includes experience as a lawyer and businessman. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, a radio host, and the volunteer chair of the non-profit group Civic Action.

5. Laura Vandervoort

Accomplished Canadian Actress, Laura Vandervoort, was in the Psychology and English programs at York University before pursuing her career in acting. She is known for her range of roles in television shows, most notably the lead role of “supergirl” on the huge series Smallville. She also acted in a lead role on the hit CTV series “Instant Star” and starred in the sequel feature film to “Into the Blue”. Amazingly, her career started at the age of 19 while she was still attending York University.
