ANAT30007 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Piriformis Muscle, Fibrocartilage, Adductor Tubercle Of Femur

18 views16 pages

Document Summary

Made up of more than one articulation -> different movements (gliding, rolling, some rotation) Main articulations share a common capsule and have communicating articular cavities: tibiofemoral joint, patellofemoral joint (continuous with fibrous capsule of knee joint) Fibula not included in the knee joint (doesn"t share capsule or have communicating articular cavity) Medial and lateral femoral condyles articulate with menisci and the medial and lateral tibial condyles. Medial and lateral menisci sit b/w the femoral and tibial condyles. Intercondylar notch separates femoral condyles: femoral condyles merge anteriorly to form a shallow anterior depression patellar suface of the femur. Medial and lateral condyles have their own projections epicondyles. Adductor tubercle: projection on superior surface of medial epicondyle. Patellar surface of femur articulates with posterior aspect of the patella. What keeps the patella centred: even pull of medial and vastus muscles in anterior thigh, ridge on posterior surface of patella.
