What is stress?
The psychological and physical response experienced when a discrepancy between demands
of a situation and the capacity to cope are received.
Stress affects people in different ways:
Behavioural, cognitive & emotional indicators
How we perceive stress
What we perceive to be stressful
What we do with stress
Stress affects perception, mood, memory, attitudes - therefore interfering with
communication
Main causes of stress?
Stress - Overall effects
Can have positive effects (e.g. Eustress)
Can have negative effects on psychological well-being and functioning (e.g. memory,
communication)
Effects on prefrontal cortex & hippocampus
Can have direct and indirect effects on physical health
