MGNT205 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Operational Definition, Job Performance, Statistical Significance
Document Summary
Measurement is the process of assigning numbers to objects to represent quantities of an attribute of the objects. In other words, when you measure for selection purposes you need to assign a value (number or percentage) to an attribute (ksaos or personal characteristics/traits) of an object (the job candidate). This will allow you to compare job candidates to find the most suitable employee. Measurement is an important aspect for selection tools as we need to discriminate between objects (job candidates) in a relevant, fair and unbiased manner: validity and reliability. The two youtube clips below talk about validity and reliability. One is in relation to selection, the other in relation to research - both explain the concepts of validity and reliability which are important factors when choosing selection tools. The attached chapter talks about criteria and how it relates to measuring standards.
