Document Summary
Change would be relatively easy if you didn"t have to manage the emotions of the people involved in the process. When leading, managing and implementing change we need to understand the importance and complexity of interactions between organisational change and employee emotions. Shock: feel threatened, denial, flight or fight, shut down. Productivity low, lack of action and commitment, attitudes become conservative. Defensive retreat: feel anger, hold on to what we know. Acknowledgement: we mourn but let go and understand. Adaptation and change: we accept and move forward convincing other also. Ending phase: letting go of the previous situation. Neutral zone: completing endings and building energy for beginnings. New beginnings: new possibilities or alignment with a vision. Political: fear of losing power or wanting to gain it. Loss of employee loyalty and motivation, increased errors or mistakes, increased absenteeism. Humour : sarcasm and irony reduces fear (positive, adaptive) Dissociation: distancing ones self from reality (negative, maladaptive)
