Week 1

-1st assignment > poster 20% > template online
•List of organisations in unit outline (cant choose caritas/Red Cross bc they are case
studies in course work. Can use Fred hollows, refugee advocacy group etc) > select
one > 3% describe the organisation, 3% connect organisations activities with the
common good, 10% how you in your future profession could work with that
organisation, 4% spelling and referencing (use referencing style from your faculty:
Chicago BVAD) > DUE WK4 but can hand in early
-Assignment 2 Opinion Editorial 700 words (15-20% over allowed > focus on quality of
writing rather than quantity) > 30%
•not an argument, it is persuasive text, influence reader with your opinion > Structure
reccomendation: introduction with point of view and prelim discussion of 3 key points
to cover in body, para 1 discussion of point 1 (if using data, encourage website use for
up to date stats. If using journals, data is relatively up to date. If using book,
information is approx 7 years out of date), para 2 discussion of point 2, para 3 of
discussion of point 3, conclusion
-Assignment 3 Essay wk 12 > 1200 words > 50%
•Reduce research load if you choose similar/same topics from previous 2 assignments
> select topic carefully at beginning > keep topic local then look at comparison from a
global perspective e.g. look at refugee advocacy group in poster then in op ed write
about offshore detention and arguing for onshore housing compared to Norway
processing refugees in 6 weeks and during that time they’re in community housing run
by Norwegians being integrated into society
-Can email tutor for pre assessment to check if on the right track
-Turnitin can crash so screenshot the confirmation of upload if there are issues
-Choose a topic that you are passionate about bcc it will make the work load easier
