OTHY202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Varicose Veins, Human Factors And Ergonomics, Job Design
Document Summary
Week 3 office ergonomics and computer based workstation assessment. Changes in office work from paper-based to computer. Typewriters determined work speed and contained an element of physical activity. Little documented evidence of msd arising from paper-based work (some postural) Lighting must be directed to prevent problems with bleaching of screen image. Daylighting less important than directed lighting, but daylight good for eyes and mood. Computer work faster than humans so overworking is encouraged. Msd constant menace and continues to be experienced. Usually related to fixed static postures and work speed. Jobs with too little variation do same task over and over. Jobs with too little physical variation but high cognitive demands stress: job design and organization. Failure in design of the job to include changes of activities as rest from the same task. Oh & s focus more on safety than health and wellbeing. Lack of knowledge of work health issues -> postural variation, reporting discomfort, eye test: work health.
