PHTY304 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Gross Motor Skill, Preterm Birth, Obstructive Lung Disease
Document Summary
Outline your understanding of cerebral (of the brain) palsy (lack of muscle control) A group of permanent, non-progressive disorders of development of movement and posture, causing activity limitations attributed to non-progressive disturbance in the developing foetal/infant brain. Umnl where there is an injury/lesion to neural pathway above the anterior horn cell of the spinal cord or motor nuclei of the cranial nerves. This lesion has occurred to a developing brain. If the lesion has occurred to the developing brain in the first 2 years of life, it is categorized as cp. Risk determining factors leading to natayaa developing cp: prematurity: natayaa born very preterm (28-31 wks) (30 weeks). The examiner assesses breathing effort, hr, muscle tone, reflexes and skin colour and scores each category from 0-2. 7+ is excellent condition, 4-6 is moderately depressed, 1-3 is severely depressed. Majority of very preterm infants escape significant disability.
