PSYC2011 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Forensic Science, Genetic Testing, Blunt Trauma
Document Summary
Report put out by nas giving a scathing review of forensics in law. Guidance from investigators as to where they look for information. So the information you"re given when you arrive is going to affect what kind of search you do. Some are private owned labs, some are law enforcement affiliated. Not enough people, huge work load, work doesn"t get done as well. When a lay person hears forensic evidence, you are likely to think that that person had gone to uni or gotten some kind of accreditation - not the case. A lot of different methods that don"t have great success rates. Also false/misleading testimony my forensic scientists to a separate and also contributing factor. Proficiency test - testing the forensic examiners to see if they are working at an appropriate level. Sometimes it doesn"t matter - lab person"s dna mixed in. Is a problem when they mix samples from 2 different crimes.
