Document Summary
Ascend dorsally to the face, brain and posterior region of body (behind brachial. Leading from heart is left and right aortic arch vessels arches) Fourth arch vessel becomes the dorsal aorta. Before week seven the blood supply for neck and face is given by internal carotid and after week seven by the external carotid. Between the clefts small arch vessels that supply each cleft. Inside surfaces contribute to the development of the tongue. Two swellings (lateral lingual) and median swelling is called the tuberculum impar. Tongue starts to develop at 32 days. Develops from swellings on the inside of the branchial arches. 1st arch: anterior 2/3s from the lateral swellings and tuberculum impar. 3rd arch: posterior eminence that overgrows the 2nd arch. 2nd arch has limited contribution, majorly 1 and 3 but it contributes to the taste buds on the anterior 2/3s of the tongue.
