Eg – satisfying hunger, staying healthy
Concepts are minded for ideas

-realization of one or many concepts
What is innovation? – a successfully
implemented idea
Eg incandescent light bulb
Idea-electrically powered light source using a
filament
Concept – new source of light, ability to work,
study, play at night, increases usable hours in
day
Innovation- improved the original design to
create more efficient sources of lighting (using
lef, fluorescent) but the concept stays the same
while the idea improves and changes
What is it meant be successfully implemented?
- A new idea has to survive on its own
merit within the competitive landscape
and understand the need s of customer
- It is difficult - everything is new, the
risk that are unknown
- No guarantee for success
What is required to achieve innovative change?

Innovation is more than just technology, it has
to overcome the mind-set of people and
processes
Global environmental impact
The planet is treated as an open system with the
only input solar energy and only output waste
heat
All forms of human activity and the planets
resources remains trapped within the
environment
The global economy invariably needs energy
and source. How? – renewable and non-
renewable energy
The output of the economy – sink – is used
energy and resources, how will it be disposed?
– recycled (technical or biological), or non-
recycled (useless)
In a finite world, continually extracting non-
renewable energy and resources and producing
useless waste will result in a full-world
ecosystem
