Pharmakon is poison in greek and logia means the study of. Pharmacology is the study of drugs, which are substances used for their beneficial effects on living systems. A substance used to modify the physiological system or pathological state to benefit the recipient. Medicine is a drug or drugs given for a therapeutic purpose: usually a drug mixed in a formulation to allow appropriate administration. Each drug is identified by 3 names: Chemical name: a precise description of the drug"s chemical composition and molecular structure. Generic (or approved) name: determined by the manufacturer and approved by the local drug regulating authority: its official name. Trade (or propriety) name: decided by the drug company and refers to the formulation of the drug. The company then advertises the drug using the trade name. Allowed to be used in sport competitions. Antacids, laxatives, as they are not contact lens products, considered to be poisons infant formulae vitamins, sunscreens, topical antiseptics and herbal remedies.
