HUMB2009 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Pleural Effusion, Traffic Collision, Subcutaneous Emphysema
Document Summary
Fracture of the rt 1st rib at the sterno-chondral junction (subcutaneous emphysema) Fracture cause air in the soft tissue. Mediastinal window, showing retrosternal hematoma (green arrow), traces of bilateral pleural effusion. Sagittal mpr: retro-sternal hematoma and the intact aorta (green arrow) Us image shows a superficial hematoma (between callipers) associated with cortical disruption of the rib (arrowhead) Displacement of the clavicle damaging the soft tissue. *skeletal trauma in child abuse can be detected with 18f-naf pet. Most common malignant tumors, spreading by blood and lymphatic or direct extension. Most common primary tumors are: breast, lung, prostate, kidney, thyroid. Radiographs: irregular and poorly defined lucent lesions or with different densities. Nm: multiple focal areas of radionuclide uptake. Osteoblastic activity is present in the right scapula, right lower sternum, left 5th rib anterolateral, t5, t6, t10 and l3 vertebral bodies, right posterior iliac bone, sacrum, right distal third femur, left mid femur and proximal left humerus.
